International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread violations of human rights. Statistics are available on the various forms, but the true number is thought to be much more.

Violence against women can come in many forms -

* Intimate partner violence such as sexual, physical or psychological

* Sexual violence

* Female Genital Mutilation

* Forced early marriages

* Human trafficking

* Femicide

* Harassment and / or stalking

To raise awareness and bring an end to this, the UN created International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25th November, every year. The date is the date of an assassination in 1960 of the three Mirabal sisters, Patria, Minerva, María Teresa, who were political activists in the Dominican Republic.

Each year the date sparks #16DaysofActivism to end violence against women and children and it finishes on Human Rights Day (10th December).

We will be joining in and sharing stats on our Facebook page, so please help us to raise awareness of this important issue, by sharing our posts.

Together we empower, care and connect. Together we are the change.
